The Pandemic Goes Ever On and On ...

Hello OVW ...

I don't know about y'all, but it's been hard to focus on anything, really. I mean, I'm into season 5 of my Voyager rewatch, but that's about where my brain is.

That being said, there IS a comment fic post still up and we never set a deadline. I really hope the prompts that are up can help with your creativity. They're helping mine. :)

Check it out and I can't wait to go back and read some of what's been posted.

Welcome to the end of May

I just wanted to pop in and offer my well wishes as we move into June.

I know that a lot of us in the U.S. are dealing with the daily realities of the pandemic, police violence, and the fallout of that violence in our cities.

You are all in my thoughts, and I hope you hold your creative energy close to your soul.

If you are looking for ways to help out in these times, supporting writers of color - especially Black women - is a great way. There are a number of authors out there right now, telling powerful (and also fun!) stories.

Stay safe, writer peeps.

And go play in the comment fic party! People are starting to post responses and it's amazing.

Comment Fic in the Pandemic!

Hello Open Veiners! (Is that a thing? Let's make it a thing.)

So, it looks like even though the US is trying to open up (WHY?!) ... most of us aren't going anywhere for a while. If you live outside of the US and your country isn't actively trying to kill you, we are all jealous and want to join you.

So, it's been a bit since we did a comment fic party, and again, since we all aren't really going anywhere for a while, it seems like a good time to try and stretch those exhausted brain cells.

Here's how it's going to work. There are three aspects to this party:

1. "OMG I DON'T WANT TO WRITE BUT I KIND OF WANT TO JUST CHAT WITHOUT PRESSURE". Check out the first three comment threads. They are getting to know you writer questions that can just be chatted about over the course of the next little while.

2. The Fic Prompt: From now until June 14th, the prompts are open. Prompt anyone, anything. Prompt yourself. Prompt your co-writers. Examples look like: Andy; conversations about music or Luke; the death of his coach. And remember that the most successful prompts are the open ones: Any/Any; what's love got to do with it.

3. The Fic! From now until really, let's be real, at least the end of July, go forth and respond to prompts. Respond, respond, respond. :) You can respond to as many as you like. And you can start responding as soon as the prompts are up.

Go forth! Write! Chat! Enjoy!

We can get through this all together.

hi everyone

I wanted to pop on and apologize for not posting the chat posts the last couple of weeks. I know that I can schedule them ahead of time, but I like doing them in real time because I can't set up the comment threads in a scheduled post.

Moment of admin honesty: it's been a hell of a couple of weeks. I work for Meals on Wheels, and as you can imagine, the COVID crisis in the states has meant I am running on empty at work while the changes come down the pike (and the changes are hourly). In addition, we had a big ol earthquake this week that we were SO lucky to emerge from almost unscathed (we weep for the lost bookshelf and the broken wine glass). And, there's a chance that my partner and I have been exposed to COVID, so even though we were already getting ready to work from home and doing some serious social distancing, we are now on lockdown. And ... I'm training a new employee at work so you can imagine doing that over the phone is ... fun.

So, basically, I've lost track of what day it is until really, today.

I'll be setting up more regular chats for us to connect. And I'll be around more. I hope. But, I wanted to pop on and apologize. I really loved the momentum of the chats and things just kind of exploded over here.

Thanks!
Yo

Weekend Chat time!

Hello Writers!

I am so thrilled by the success of the weekend chats. I'm getting to know more of you and that makes me so happy. :D (Sorry about last weekend, my birthday crept up on me.)

So. Here we go with the post. As usual, there will be some character threads and some writer threads to comment on. PLEASE don't think that's all you need to keep to. Add some of your own. :D

Let's Chat!

Welcome to our second weekly weekend chat. Thank you to everyone who came out to play last week. :)

In case you missed it last time: the survey at the beginning of the year revealed that one of the barriers we face is that characters get nervous talking to other characters. And that's fair. How do you pop on to talk to someone you don't even know and they're posting about totally random stuff that means nothing to you?

Initially, this was just going to be a Saturday post, but I'd like to see about having it pinned to the top through each weekend. This gives people time to comment when they have time, and not feel crammed into a schedule that only works for some.

So, what is this post?

This is a chance to pop on, to let writers talk to writers, to let characters talk to characters.

There are a few threads started, but feel free to add your own.

Jump on in! Get to know people. Both writers and characters. :)
