All right! People spoke and starting next Saturday, I will have a thread post up where writers can come in and chat and characters can come in and chat.

Meant to do it last week, but hey, I was reading okay. :) And this week, I was trekkin. (Seriously, Picard is beautiful.)

So, I mean, hopefully I will be around this week but look for the new post next weekend!

Thanks,

crawling in ...

Hi everyone!

So, I did this whole big post about writing and sharing and everything else and then my muses went to sleep for a month and a half, so ... hi!

Anyway, this is a writing post for me. I've been indulging in some Star Trek: TNG fic over the past few months and since I (finally) posted my latest, I thought I'd share.

Keep writing, my friends! Keep writing!

Title: Uncomfortable
Author: vegawriters
Series: Imzadi
Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation
Pairing: Deanna Troi/Worf; Deanna Troi/Will Riker
Rating: Mature
Timeframe: Pre All Good Things
A/N: The novelization of Descent shows Lore threatening Deanna. And there is a fantastic fic, Uncanny, by Konstantya that also addresses some of these ideas.
Disclaimer: Per usual, I don't make any money from this, but if they're hiring ...

I think we should make out …
- Halestorm/Do Not Disturb

Summary: It wouldn’t be such an issue if she and Will weren’t in some strange, frustrating dance. Her rather valid excuses for not wanting to get back into a committed relationship with him following the situation with Alkar had only led to them circling each other, just out of arm’s reach.

Summer Fic Challenge: August Edition

Welcome back everyone to the Open Vein Writing Summer Fic Challenge: August edition! This officially indicates the close of the July edition. But, now we're at the end! July completely got away from me, but we've got time to make it up.

Prompting will be allowed for two weeks. Didn't get the chance to fill one in June or July, you can fill it out now!

I will try to get all the prompts from June/July that had a "Next Month" claim posted before 11pm on August 3rd.

From this moment until September 2nd (pushing it back through Labor Day because of how late I've been getting this up), 2019 this post is open and ready for comments! Here's how it works:

Collapse )
So for the next two weeks, we are going to go commenting crazy. Is there a scene you've always wanted to write for your own characters, is there a scene you want to see a writer do for other characters, is there a character you want to get to know better? This is your chance to prompt.

Quick answer to a common question - can you answer the prompts as soon as they are posted? YES!

We will be allowing prompts to be filled right away! See something that inspires you? Don't wait! Go and comment to it. We will just be closing prompts on the 19th.

Collapse )

Again, remember: Even though prompting closes August 19th, commenting is open from now until September 2nd. Anyone is able to comment on any prompt they wish. Even if it is not your fandom. Yes, even if it is not your fandom. Especially if it is not your fandom. It is a great way to see how people see your characters.

And then we're done and your friendly neighborhood mods will put up a post that links the fics. :)

If you are interested and this post has totally confused you, comment with questions! :)

Part of the fun of this is not just to play in the really active fandoms but to also bring some of the quieter characters out of the woodwork. It's your chance to get to know original characters, faded characters, and to let those forgotten characters out of the closet a bit. :)

So, the Summer Fic Challenge: August Edition has begun! August prompting starts now and goes through 11:30 pm on Monday, August 19. Writing goes from now through 11:30 pm on Monday, September 2nd. The end of the summer is upon us!

The Summer Fic Challenge: July

Welcome back everyone to the Open Vein Writing Summer Fic Challenge: July edition! This officially indicates the close of the June edition. But, now we're going to keep it going! All summer, through the end of August, each month will host it's own separate comment party!

Prompting will be allowed for two weeks. Didn't get the chance to fill one in June? You can carry it over into July, or even August! If you reply to the prompt with "Next month" I will automatically move them to the intro post, so you can go right to filling them (of course, you can do this yourself if you forget to comment, but I want to make this as easy for everyone as possible). Participate in as many months or as few as you'd like- you don't have to commit to three months of fic.

I will try to get all the prompts from June that had a "Next Month" claim posted before 11pm on July 1.

From this moment until July 31, 2019 this post is open and ready for comments! Here's how it works:

The Summer Fic Challenge: June

The response was overwhelming, so welcome one and all to the Open Vein Writing Summer Fic Challenge! We had a fairly even distribution of opinions on how long everyone wanted the Comment Party to last, so we've figured out a solution for everyone. All summer, through the end of August, each month, will host it's own separate comment party!

Caleb Reboot

Writer Post - New Storyline

So, in the haze of the end of my second semester of grad school I got a storyline idea that I want to try and play out with Caleb. He'd sort of fallen off the radar, and I realized I needed to revisit something, reboot him from a different point.

The first time Caleb visited LA, Jerome's daughter Kaylah had coerced her dad into a vacation. Since that trip, the two became fast friends. They each have one of those 14/15 year old crushes that only teenagers who live thousands of miles apart can have, but above everything else they're friends.

Ninja Rhodes will introduce 23 year old Kaylah Bradley, soon to be a Social Policy Master's graduate from Cornell. Caleb is 22 and a recent Music, Sound and Technology graduate from City of London University.

A formal introduction post for Kaylah and a re-introduction post for Caleb will happen in the next few days.

I wasn't sure I was going to post this, but I figured why not. This is the updated and, I feel, complete synopsis.

How does it read as a synopsis? Should there be more emotion?
Does the story make sense? Are they any glaring continuity issues? Does it feel like it has a satisfying ending? Did you finish reading it?

Since this is a writing community, I wanted to give myself a challenge. I went back to the last comment fic party and grabbed one of my unused prompts.

Lang anxiously pulled her long brown ponytail over her shoulder as she listened to the rep from the record label. Over her computer screen, she could see her husband leaning against the door frame, listening to their video conversation. She had asked him to be nearby when she took the call.

She turned her attention back to Markus on the screen in front of her. They had met in the fall when she was in Amsterdam and she felt comfortable talking to him, but she had been plagued by various kinds of dissociative episodes over the course of the day, and she was afraid she was going to miss important parts of the conversation.

Of course, the whole conversation was important. It would dictate the path her career would take. Or if she even had a career.

Lang knew Markus had a coworker in the room with him. Every so often, the computer's microphone picked up distant comments and some valid concerns. "Markus, she's batshit crazy. Everyone knows that." He clearly wasn't intending to be heard, but his voice had come through clearly. Lang had everything she could do to keep it from registering on her face. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Sebastian react--he had heard it, too.

Inside, she was screaming.

To his credit, Markus pretended he didn't hear the statement. He smiled. She smiled back. "I'll get the paperwork over to you tonight. Have your lawyer look it over. If everything is amenable, we'll get this show on the road, if you'll pardon my expression."

"I'm really looking forward to this." They said their good-byes and Lang sat where she was, unmoving. Seb crossed the room and sat beside her. Without saying a word, she folded herself into his arms and gave in to the emotions she'd been fighting.
